Through documenting, strategically sharing my travels, and creating passive income streams over the years, I’ve gained first hand experience about the business side of content creation. It is through my own journey that I have been able to create a roadmap to help ask the right questions, grow my brand and business, and continuously create value for my audience. This focus has helped me leverage my platform, thereby attracting brand collaborations and sponsorships I never in my wildest dreams would have expected. So after receiving countless messages and emails from others who want to do the same, I’ve decided to start sharing more strategic resources for you: an aspiring content creator at the beginning level of your journey, who is ready to take a leap of faith and build a business that is rooted in passion and purpose.
Next in this series: affiliate programs you should sign up for that get you paid!
What’s an affiliate program?
If you’re not yet familiar, affiliate programs are the process of earning a commission by promoting other people's (or company's) products. You find a product you like, share it with others, then earn a piece of the profit for each sale made. Pretty simple! You don’t have to be even have to be an influencer or content creator to use some of them, just someone who who wants to share their favorite product recommendations with others.
Ex: When an individual talks about a product/service and shares a link with you, they will earn a commission on items you purchase through that link or by using their code, at no additional cost to the buyer (usually 5-15% of the total price).
How do they work? Will I get paid immediately?
Though affiliate links can earn you a lot of money, it’s important to understand that they aren’t a get rich quick scheme - don’t expect to make a ton of money overnight. Like everything else in life, you’ll need patience and consistency to be successful at it. Most affiliate programs require a sale to be fully closed before they’ll pay any commission to you, which means the return or exchange window will need to ended. This usually takes 60-90 days, but can vary depending on the individual brand partner. There will likely also be a minimum payment threshold before you can receive any earnings, which is typically $100.
